Fun in Any Weather: Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and Evergreen Wings & Waves Waterpark

Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and Evergreen Wings & Waves Waterpark
If you are in Oregon, or are planning to visit, you’re going to put the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and Evergreen Wings & Waves Waterpark on your list of things to do. The campus is located near McMinnville, OR. It is approximately one hour from Portland and 40 minutes from Salem. It’s a very pretty drive. Because Oregon is known as the rainy state, most of the year is not ideal for swimming. My kids were actually very concerned on the drive over because it was such a gloomy, cold and rainy day.  I told them not to worry because inside the Evergreen Wings & Waves Waterpark it is always the right temperature for swimming. Once we got inside, their worries were over.

Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and Evergreen Wings & Waves Waterpark
Evergreen Wings & Waves Waterpark
The waterpark features waterslides, a wave pool and more. It’s alot to take in all at once. They have a nice locker room area which you can rent one of three sizes to hold your valuables for a small charge and plenty of life vests of all sizes which are free to use. One of my main concerns going in to the park is water safety. Between the life vests and the overwhelming amount of lifeguards present, I felt more at ease.

Evergreen Wings & Waves Waterpark splashdown harbor
Our first stop was Splash Harbor. This is really fun because you can sit and relax on a tube. The water starts out calm and when the siren goes off, the waves start rolling in. The water in this pool goes from very shallow to about 5 feet in the deepest part.

 Evergreen Wings & Waves Waterpark
My older boys were all about the water slides. To get to them, you have to climb many stairs and you end up inside of an airplane. From there, you get to choose which slide you’d like to go down.

waterpark slide heightThe big water slides are the Mach 1, Tail Spin, Sonic Boom and Nose Dive. There are height regulations to ride these. I didn’t go on these myself, but my boys went through them a few times. They loved it!

waterpark toddler slide
There are also a few smaller slides for the little kids.

waterpark play structure
They have a big play structure that features a couple of waterslides as well as a big bucket of water that soaks the area every few minutes. It’s super fun.

waterpark pool lifeguardswaterpark pool vortex
There is also a pool. It’s not very deep. It’s less than 4 feet in all areas, so the kids can swim freely and play basketball or go into the Vortex.

waterpark hot tub
There is a large hot tub right next to the pool so that you can keep your eye on your kids in the pool.

aviation museum cover
After the waterpark visit, we headed over to the Evergreen Aviation Museum just next door.

As you go in, they have a fun area for the kids to play. And it’s not just for the small kids. My older kids spent plenty of time checking out the exhibits in there.

Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum Spruce Goose
The Evergreen Aviation Museum is the home of the Hughes Flying Boat aka The Spruce Goose . It takes up a good portion of the building itself. This is the largest wood constructed and the largest wingspan airplane ever built.

Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum Spruce Goose
It is amazing to look at from the inside. Only portions of the plane are accessible, but tours of other parts of the plane are available for a fee.

aviation museum long plane aviation museum plane aviation museum red baron
If you are an airplane enthusiast, then you will love this museum. There is just so much to see.

Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum
Next door to the Aviation Museum is the Space Museum.

space museum boys playing
This is just as big as the Aviation Museum. You could literally spend all day on the campus here between all of the buildings.  Lots and lots to see and do. There is a big space themed play structure in front of the building, but it was pouring rain outside when we came, so we didn’t get to check it out. It looked like fun though.

space museum rocket
My kids were really fascinated by this huge rocket.

space museum rocket bottom
You can actually walk down to the bottom of it. It’s MASSIVE. You can barely see my son down there next to it.

space museum astronaut
They also have a really cool moon scene setup as well.

We had such a great time visiting the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and Evergreen Wings & Waves Waterpark and I am sure you will too. To learn more about the park and to get rates and directions, please visit their site.

Disclosure: We received free admission to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and Evergreen Wings & Waves Waterpark to facilitate this review. All opinions stated are my own.
