Summer Fun with Hasbro: Nerf Super Soaker and The Amazing Spider-Man Toys Review

Well, it wouldn’t be summer for the kids without some toys that belong in the out of doors, right? Things that shoot (water or otherwise) should be played with outside, in my opinion. My kids were thrilled as can be when we got an awesome goodie pack of toys from Hasbro so that they could have some summer fun. As you can see these items are all intended to shoot something, so this was their cue to head to the yard to play.

My daughter was super excited to try out her new Nerf Rebelle Super Soaker Dolphina Bow. She was already a fan of Nerf Rebelle products, so I didn’t have to twist her arm to get her to play with this. I think it’s an adorable squirt gun bow, and it’s easy for her to load. The soaker holds up to 25 fluid ounces of water.

The Nerf Super Soaker Tri Strike Crossbow Soaker is a champion among squirt guns. It’s shaped like a crossbow and can shoot a single stream or three streams depending on the mode you choose. The large capacity tank can hold up to 40 ounces of water and can fire a single stream of water up to 38 feet.

Have a “blast” with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Motorized Spider Force Web Blaster. This product was built using Nerf technology. Load up to 5 foam discs into the motorized chamber, aim and pull the trigger to fire. Shooter launches up to 20 feet. This gun does require batteries which are not included. My son loves his Spider-Man blaster.

So what are you waiting for? Get yourself outside and have some summer fun!

Mrs Renfro’s Salsas Review & Giveaway (ends 7/13)

Screen Shot 2014-07-02 at 8.09.40 PM
If you are a fan of salsas and condiments in general, you probably already know about Mrs Renfro’s Salsa. They have been making gourmet salsas for 74 years! From barbecue sauce, to relish to salsas of all sorts, Mrs. Renfro’s does it all and they do it well.

Those of you on special diets will be happy to know that Mrs. Renfro’s salsas are Gluten-free and fat-free. They are made only with natural ingredients. Their specialty flavors include: Peach, Raspberry Chipotle, Black Bean, Mango Habanero, Pomegranate, Roasted, Garlic and award-winning Pineapple and Ghost Pepper, among other flavors.

I was recently sent a 4 pack of flavors to try for this review. I chose the Barbecue Sauce, Nacho Cheese Sauce, Garlic Salsa and Pineapple Salsa. All of these were delicious. Notice how I’m using past tense here? It’s because they are gone now. The pineapple salsa was my favorite. While it wasn’t particularly spicy, the flavor was really good. It’s one of those salsa’s you could serve to anyone without it being too hot, especially for the kids. The barbecue sauce was my favorite non-salsa item that I tried. I grilled some chicken with it and it was amazing. The kids loved the Nacho Cheese sauce the most. My kids attacked it like crazy. It was good cold or warm. The Garlic Salsa was the spiciest of all I tried although it was a medium hot. I didn’t feel it was on the hot side, just had a nice garlicy heat to it. I love garlic, so this one was great.

Buy it: Mrs. Renfro’s salsas, relishes and sauces make a great addition to any of your summer gatherings. Did you know that a jar of Mrs. Renfro’s won’t break the bank? A 16-oz jar retails between $3.49 and $3.79 and is readily found in most leading grocery stores and chains as well as online. Click here to shop.

Win it: One of you will win a 4 pack of Mrs. Renfro’s salsa’s of your choice. Please enter through the Rafflecopter below. It may take 30 seconds or more to load.

Kids Can Party Like it’s 1965 with the VW Camper Van Play Tent from The Monster Factory

camper tent
This summer, kids 3 and up can go on an imaginary road trip with the 1965 VW Camper Van Play Tent from The Monster Factory. This VW-licensed tent is large enough for three children to “take a road trip” on the beach, at the campground, in the backyard or in the living room.

This adorable tent is stored in a “wheelie” carrying case so that you can take it with you wherever you go. It also features openings on the side, the back and an “opening window” on the front.

bus front

It’s very easy to set up. It takes about 1-2 minutes from start to finish to get it set up for play. Just check out the video tutorial and see for yourself.  Packing it up is so simple that you might accidentally over-complicate it on your first attempt like I did. Again, you’ll want to watch the video tutorial to see how easy it is.

My kids adore this tent. My daughter was the first one to try it out, but it easily holds her and her 7 year old brother. My 11 year old can’t quite fit comfortably in there while the other two are in there, but he loves to hang out in there on his own to lay down and read, draw, etc.

back of the bus
I have found the VW Camper Van Play Tent to be durable and sturdy. The fabric feels very much like your tent you’d take camping, to give you an idea.

Buy it: The VW Camper Van Play Tent comes in red, blue or pink and is available for purchase online for $59.95 from The Monster Factory.

Nectar Sunglasses Review @nectarsunglasses

Here in Oregon we don’t really take it for granted when the sun comes out. I’m am so happy that we have been getting some sunny weather here lately. I always feel a little bit like a mole when the first signs of spring arrive. The sunshine leads to some serious squinting after not seeing it for a good portion of the year. Needless to say, I need some good sunglasses to beat the glare.

I was recently sent a pair of Nectar Sunglasses in Amethyst. I really like these. I think they are cute and they are also sturdy. They come with a cute little pouch to help protect them while not in use.

The Amethyst features a lightweight frame specifically designed for maximum comfort as well as a durable polycarbonate frame which is made to take a beating. That is important to me because I have kids and one way or another, they find a way to break most of my glasses, so I appreciate anything that’s made to be sturdy.  These glasses also offer 100% UV protection. It doesn’t get better than that. If you like to spend time near the water or snow, you will find that these glasses reduce the blinding eyestrain that you typically get in these areas.

I also like the price. Nectar styles start at just $20 with free shipping! Right now you can get 10% off code Nectar Sunglasses with code lovenectar making a $20 pair of glasses only $18. Standard shipping is free on all US orders. Click here to shop.

National Geographic Kids Animal Jam Review

Do your kids play online games? My boys really like to, and their favorite one right now is Animal Jam from National Geographic Kids. Animal Jam is an online virtual playground for kids who love animals and the outdoors. It is also packed with National Geographic videos, facts, games and more.

I know when I put the words kids and online games in the same sentence, all sorts of red lights go off for most of us. So you may be wondering, is it safe? In my experience, I would say yes. The goal of Animal Jam is to provide a fun, exciting and safe environment for kids to play online. In fact, there are in game moderators to help ensure safe play , which includes safe chat ( i.e.:they can block naughty words from being seen in the chat and give warnings, ban players, etc.) In addition, kids can themselves block and/or report any players who may be acting inappropriately. Animal Jam is free from outside advertising and adheres to a strict privacy policy.

Animal Jam is free for everyone to play, but there is also a paid membership option, which gives you access to more features. I’m not sure about the details of all of the extra features, but my boys really look forward to their weekly diamond gift and they love having access to all of the animals. Overall, having membership enhances their game experience.

Since I don’t have much experience in playing Animal Jam, I decided to enlist my 11 year old in helping me write this review since he is the expert. Here is what he had to say about Animal Jam membership:

“If you didn’t know, Animal Jam has a cool membership you can join. What if you had this membership? For starters, you might want to run off somewhere buying the thing you wanted the most that was for members only and look cool and stuff. Maybe you wouldn’t and you’d save your money and diamonds I suppose? The membership is to unlock the stuff you always wanted to upgrade your character or get diamonds weekly. I would suggest the first time you buy the membership on Animal Jam to buy one new item daily or just trade for what you want. The cool thing about membership is that it unlocks EVERYTHING!!! What you will enjoy in Animal Jam with your membership is making friends and looking cool maybe and also get cool gear!“

If you didn’t catch that, my 11 year old son thinks Animal Jam membership is COOL! My son is the original Mr. Cool, so if he thinks it’s cool, it must be cool. Playing Animal Jam is one of those things that will help keep my boys busy during the summer when we’re just kind of relaxing around the house. It really holds their attention and it’s also a way for them to keep in contact with their friends from school, since they all play it too, so I’m all for it.

Play it: Head over here to play Animal Jam.

Buy it: Membership starts at $5.95 per month. Click here to get started.

Zike Z100 Review

Do your kids like to ride scooters or bikes? If your answer is yes, then they will most likely LOVE the Zike. If you haven’t heard of Zike before, you are probably wondering what it is and what it does? Well, the Zike is something like a bike and kind of like a scooter. It’s like nothing I have ever seen or used before, but I will do my best to explain it to you.

For this review, I was sent the Zike Z100. This model is geared for children ages 5-8, but it supports up to 150 lbs, so an older child or adult can potentially use it.

The Zike does need to be assembled before use. Everything you need to put it together is in the box. No special tools are required. I had ours put together in about 30 minutes.

Once I had it assembled, the kids and I headed out to give it a good test run. At first glance, I was thinking that the Zike was more like a scooter, but it really isn’t. If your child can ride a bike, without training wheels, they can ride Zike, because they will be balancing themselves up. Both feet stay on the Zike while they are riding. It also features a sweet kick stand for when it’s not in use.

My little one, who is 5, wasn’t quite ready to ride yet, but I think with a little practice, she’ll be Ziking soon.

My boys had no trouble whatsoever getting started on the Zike. Once they were going, there wasn’t much stopping them. I was a little worried about how they might stop, but there is a handbrake and they were able to slow down and hop off just fine.

Here is a video of my 7 year old having a blast on Zike.

I tried it myself and so did my husband and both of us said the same thing, “That is a workout!”. The Zike really works your legs and gives you some aerobic exercise. Not to mention that it’s fun.

My kids love their Zike. They are always asking to go out and ride it, which is awesome, because it’s getting them away from the tv, computer, video games, etc. and getting them outdoors and active. Isn’t that what summer is all about? I highly recommend the Zike to anyone who is looking for a new, fun outdoor activity for their child.

If you’re wondering about the health benefits of using a Zike, here are a few for your consideration:

  • Improved Posture: We teach our kids to observe good posture so that they may avoid back problems as adults. So why do we put them on bikes in a “hunched over” position? Ziking naturally encourages improved posture.
  • Joint Impact: Easier on bones and joints than running.
  • Improves Balance and coordination: “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” Ziking engages constant coordination of the whole body, while major muscle groups work together to maintain balance.
  • Cardio & Pulmonary: Breathe deep and enjoy the wind in your face! Ziking delivers superior aerobic and cardiovascular fitness freedom!
  • Burn More Calories: Why be stuck in the gym watching the clock? Ziking offers a superior calorie burn while both time and scenery quickly fly by. Burn up the calories, burn up the road!
  • Unparalleled Riding Performance: Einstein taught us that matter and energy are interchangeable. Using a powerful patented leverage principal, Zike utilizes both the rider’s energy and weight to catapult beyond yesterday’s ride.

Buy it: The Zike Z100 comes in your choice of red, green or pink and is currently available for purchase online for $99.

You can also keep up with Zike on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates.
